Art Textiles Exhibit

"Along the Russian River and Water Quilt" is one of the pieces showing from January 11 - March 2, 2012 at Occidental Center for the Arts Gallery in Santa Rosa. The opening reception is January 14th 3:30-5:00pm. This exhibit features pieces from two projects; "Along the Russian River" has 20 panels featuring the seasons and flow of the river from Healdsburg to the ocean and "Water Quilt". SAQA members of The Pointless Sisters Art Quilt Group are Judy Mathieson, Cathy Ortelle, Linda Morand and Diane Land. Additional pieces will also be exhibited. The Pointless Sisters are part of the Santa Rosa Quilt Guild, Sonoma County.

Fun was had by all members and guest that attended. It was a beautiful day in Concord and the gallery had a great show up for us to browse.The program for the day was one of the trunks from the "This is a Quilt" traveling show. On October 3rd members of SAQA gathered at Robin's home in Oakland and had a very special day with Sandra Sider - SAQA president - 12 quilts were presented to Sandra for critiquing. Sandra discussed the strong and weak points giving helpful comments. Each person told the reason for the piece they showed and members who were present added comments.

Cara Gulati New Sales Rep for A1 Quilting Machines

Regional member Cara Gulati has taken on a new job as the California sales rep for A1 Quilting Machines. After trying several other brands and buying one at the International Quilt Festival in Houston last fall, she is totally sold on the A1 brand because it performed so well with specialty threads. All NorCA-NV SAQA members are invited to participate in the 2010 Whisper Challenge. Each participant has one month to complete a quilt based on a previous quilt. First person in each group bases her/his quilt on an assigned photograph. The new challenge starts March 1, 2010. Please contact Robin Jack-Brown via email (appliquecrazy11@yahoo.com) to sign up. The deadline for sign-ups is Saturday, February 27, 2010. Robin will send out the participation lists as well as the photos to the first participant in each group.
